It is important to view your site from the perspective of your target audience.
There are many bad websites that exist today because they don't follow this simple procedure of creating a site that makes sence to your end user. Companies spend hundreds and thousands of dollars trying to bring potential customers to their websites but what happens when the visitors arrive? They are unable to find what they need on your site, then go clicking away to your competition!
You must start by identifying in a list all the unique user groups that you want your website to targets and then imagine visiting the website from each user's perspective. Identify the process that potential customers use to navigate through your website, to learn about your products and services, and deliver your desired response.
